Who are Zeus ?

Fish of the Zeus genus are commonly known as “John Dory.” Two other species may also be referred to by this name: Neocyttus rhomboidalis and Pseudocyttus maculatus (New Zealand John Dory). They belong to the order Zeiformes, which are primarily deep-sea (abyssal) fish.

Renowned for their flesh, these fish are the target of many fisheries and are caught using bottom trawls. They are reported to be abundant along certain coasts (Senegal, Morocco, Madeira...) but rarer in other regions. They are marketed fresh, frozen, dried, salted, and smoked. They are also used to produce fishmeal and fish oil by industrial offshore fishing fleets.
