How to recognize the bogue ?

The body is mainly silver and fusiform. The back is darker, sometimes slightly golden. The fins are translucent.

Despite being small, the teeth of this small predator are very sharp.

This fish lives in large shoals, which can consist of several thousand individuals. It swims at mid-depth and moves to the surface during small nocturnal migrations.

The bogue is oviparous and spawns in open water.

Scientific opinions differ on sexual determination. This species could be born with both sexes. According to this hypothesis, sexual gender would become definitive at around ten centimeters. The species could also be protogynous.
